Maize Winterstone

French genetics for the fresh produce market

The «Winterstone» maize hybrid by Lidea is a specialized solution designed for producers focusing on the fresh market segment. Unlike industrial forage hybrids, this variety is engineered with a primary emphasis on organoleptic properties and physical appearance. Its French breeding background ensures consistency, allowing farmers to deliver high-quality ears that meet the rigorous standards of modern retail and culinary markets.

Practical application in the field

Adopting «Winterstone» helps growers move toward high-value produce. Achieving optimal results requires specific agronomic focus:

• Stand uniformity: To ensure the development of well-filled, marketable ears, strict adherence to planting density guidelines is essential. Proper spacing minimizes competition, resulting in uniform grain set.
• Post-harvest quality: Since this hybrid is dedicated to fresh consumption, post-harvest shelf life and sugar retention are key advantages. The variety maintains its culinary appeal during logistics, making it a reliable choice for distributors.
• Crop protection: Maintaining the integrity of the husk and grain is paramount for the fresh market. Effective pest management programs are necessary to preserve the pristine appearance required for retail shelves.

Choosing Lidea’s «Winterstone» is a strategic move for farmers looking to diversify away from commodity grains and into premium niche products. While it demands precise field management, it rewards the grower with a high output of marketable, superior-quality produce suitable for both retail and the HoReCa industry.
