Corn hybrid KV 1 GA 3167 is supplied in seeding units, each containing 80,000 seeds. One such unit is sufficient to sow an area from 1 to 1.6 hectares, depending on the seeding rate. For example, at a seeding rate of 50,000 seeds per hectare, one bag will suffice for 1.6 hectares, whereas at an increased rate of 80,000 seeds per hectare, it will cover 1 hectare. Thus, the calculation of the required amount of seeds for sowing depends on the chosen seeding rate and field area.
The seeding rate of corn is determined based on seed material quality, soil preparation, and soil moisture reserves. It is recommended to include a safety margin for plants that may die during the vegetation period, as well as for edge losses. This margin typically ranges from 5% to 20%, depending on the field's condition and geometry. On average, in Ukrainian conditions, the seeding rate is 10–25 kg of seeds per hectare, equivalent to 68–80,000 seeds per hectare. The seeding rate should always exceed the desired plant density at harvest time by 10–20%.
