Gileya is a variety of miniature sweet corn widely grown in Asia and gaining popularity among European gourmets in recent years. The plant reaches a height of 50-70 cm, with 2-3 small ears (up to 10 cm long and about 2 cm in diameter) forming on each plant. One seed can grow into 5-10 plants, ensuring a good harvest with proper care.
Mini corn has a delicate texture, allowing it to be eaten even raw. It is excellent for use in salads, steaming, frying, and marinating. This variety is also often frozen or canned whole, which preserves its taste and nutritional value for a long time.
Sowing is conducted from late April to early June, planting 1-2 seeds per hole with a spacing of about 30 cm between plants. Seeds require a temperature no lower than 10 degrees Celsius to germinate. The plant grows well on any soil, but it is preferable to choose sites with moderate moisture and wind protection. Mini corn matures quickly, and harvesting is recommended to begin immediately after the appearance of corn silk at the tips of the ears.
