Adaptability and Field Performance of "DU Orchyk"

The 2025 novelty from the Institute of Grain Crops of the NAAS of Ukraine, the "DU Orchyk" hybrid, is engineered as a reliable solution for farmers in the Polissia region. In northern conditions, where rapid maturation and resilience to moisture fluctuations are critical, this hybrid demonstrates balanced development.

The plant's morphological features indicate strong structural integrity: moderate leaf margin waviness and a small angle between the leaf blade and the stem promote optimal solar energy utilization. Strong anthocyanin coloration of the aerial roots and the sheath of the first leaf serves as a marker of high vitality and adaptive potential during the cool spring typical of the Polissia zone.

Resilience and Development

• Stem Strength: Weak zigzagging of the stem combined with its length ensures resistance to lodging. The plant features a balanced ratio of ear attachment height to total plant height, facilitating efficient mechanical harvesting.
• Stress Response: The hybrid's early maturity allows it to avoid peak summer temperatures that can negatively impact pollination. The medium density of the tassel and moderate flowering ensure stable grain formation even under unstable weather conditions.
• Ear Morphology: The conical-cylindrical shape and medium diameter parameters allow the hybrid to accumulate grain mass effectively. The medium length of the ear shank ensures convenience during threshing, minimizing harvest losses.
