The «STREL A» chumiza variety is mid-season, with an upright bush 120–140 cm tall, featuring a sturdy stem of medium thickness and intermediate leaves. The panicle has a spindle shape and is rich in anthocyanin coloration, while the awns are short and sparse, making the plant non-lodging and resistant to shattering.
The grain is medium-sized, round, and red, with a 1000-grain weight of 2.7–3.2 g. The internal composition is characterized by high protein content (14.4%) and a significant level of the essential amino acid lysine, as well as elevated vitamin E content. These properties make «STREL A» a valuable feed material for poultry farming and a source of high-quality biomass.
The variety shows resistance to bunt infection, spotting, drought, and grain sprouting in the field. The vegetative period is 117–120 days, with yield in trials reaching up to 5 t/ha, an average of about 38 c/ha (3.8–4.9 t/ha in the Oryol region). A sowing rate of 4–7 kg/ha is recommended for cultivation. Thanks to its earliness and good threshability, «STREL A» is suitable for a wide range of agro-technical practices and ensures a stable output of high-quality grain and biomass.
