Wild cabbage Mars

Stability and density in every head

When working with 'Mars' red cabbage from the Czech company Moravoseed, the first thing you notice is the predictability of the harvest. This mid-late variety is ideal for those focused on long-term storage. Under field conditions, the variety demonstrates excellent uniformity of heads, which is critical for mechanized harvesting and subsequent packaging.

Vegetation features and maintenance

Cultivating this hybrid does not require complex or specific agrotechnical tricks. The variety is quite resistant to major cruciferous diseases. Key points to focus on during growth:

• Planting density: it is optimal to stick to standard spacing so that the heads reach their marketable weight of 1.5–2.5 kg.
• Irrigation: 'Mars' responds well to consistent moisture, especially during head formation. In dry soils, density may decrease, so a drip irrigation system is your best ally here.
• Harvesting window: the dense leaf structure allows for flexibility in harvest timing, and the heads are not prone to cracking, even with fluctuating moisture levels.

Storage and market appeal

For a market-oriented farmer, 'Mars' represents commercial reliability. Its deep dark-burgundy color and waxy bloom make the heads look exceptionally fresh. In storage, the variety performs reliably: when temperature regimes are maintained, it preserves its quality until spring, allowing you to sell during peak market prices. If you are looking for a reliable Czech-bred variety that delivers on density and storability, 'Mars' will become a go-to tool in your crop rotation.
