Growing 'Nakhodka': A Farmer’s Perspective

In the world of fresh market vegetable production, predictability is the most valuable asset. The 'Nakhodka' cabbage, developed by Sedek, is a variety that excels in consistency. With a maturation period of 70–80 days after transplanting, it allows for clear planning and stable supply cycles.

Plant Performance and Cultivation

The standout feature of 'Nakhodka' is its compactness. Producing a head weighing between 0.5 and 1.0 kg, it perfectly fits the demand for portion-sized vegetables in modern retail. From an agronomic standpoint, the variety is low-maintenance. Over-fertilizing is counterproductive here; it can trigger cracking, whereas moderate, consistent watering ensures a dense head and excellent internal structure.

Key Considerations for Growers

• Market Focus: This variety is specifically designed for the fresh market. Long-term storage is not its intended use, so aligning the harvest with immediate logistics is crucial for maintaining quality.
• Planting Density: Thanks to its compact habit, you can implement higher planting density compared to mid-to-late season varieties, maximizing your yield per square meter.
• Resilience: The breeding program managed by the Sedek team focused on reliability under fluctuating environmental conditions. The variety handles soil moisture variations well, provided proper drainage is maintained.

Daily maintenance of a 'Nakhodka' plot is straightforward: standard weeding and regular pest monitoring. For small to medium-scale operations, this is a dependable choice. You get a uniform, market-ready product that shines when sold fresh, avoiding the overhead of post-harvest storage.
