Basil variety "Dark Night" is a medium-maturing plant that takes about 65 days to develop from germination to flowering. The plants reach a height of 40-45 cm, are well-leafy, and exhibit strong bushy growth. The leaves are large with a toothed edge, while the flowers have a delicate lilac tint. The mass of one adult plant is 200-230 g, and the yield of greens reaches 1.7 kg per square meter. This variety has an intense clove aroma, making it especially valuable for culinary use.
Basil greens "Dark Night" are used both fresh and dried, primarily in home cooking. The optimal time for harvesting greens is before the start of budding, when plants accumulate the maximum amount of essential oils. Due to its aroma, basil is ideal for preparing dishes with tomatoes, as well as for flavoring tomato juice, vegetable oil, and vinegar.
To grow this variety, it is recommended to use warm, fertile, and light soils rich in manure. Seeds are sown at a depth of about 0.5 cm at a soil temperature of +12-15 °C, usually in late April to early May. Plants require regular watering, especially in dry weather, and respond well to fertilizers. Thanks to its decorative appearance, basil "Dark Night" is also suitable for growing in pots on window sills and balconies, allowing you to enjoy fresh greens year-round.
