The breeding strategy of the Myronivka Wheat Institute named after V.M. Remeslo in developing this winter barley variety focused on creating a high-intensity agrotype capable of maintaining productivity under high disease pressure. The key feature of 'MIP Strateg' lies in the balance between the 1,000-kernel weight (40–42 g) and high tillering capacity, which allows for the formation of a dense canopy even under delayed sowing conditions.

Phytosanitary Resistance as a Cost-Reduction Tool

The main technical advantage of this variety is its genetically encoded tolerance to the complex of pathogens that typically limit winter barley yields. 'MIP Strateg' demonstrates robust resistance to:

• Helminthosporiosis, minimizing the risk of leaf area loss during the stem elongation phase.
• Powdery mildew, which hinders active photosynthesis in the lower canopy layer.
• Dwarf leaf rust, often causing premature drying of crops.

In practice, this means the ability to optimize fungicide applications: the variety's biological potential allows it to suppress disease development without excessive chemical pressure.

Agrotechnological Recommendations

The variety is oriented toward intensive cultivation, where maximum grain yield is achieved by adhering to seeding rates that foster its tillering potential. Given the 40-42 gram seed weight, growers receive high-quality seed material with strong germination energy and vigorous initial growth. This is critical for successful overwintering: the variety rapidly develops a root system, ensuring reliable adaptation to the unstable winter temperatures in Ukraine's steppe and forest-steppe zones.
