Banir F1 (KS 1819 F1) is an early and high-yielding hybrid of the Charleston Gray type, developed by the Dutch company Kitano Seeds. The plant features a strong stem and dense foliage that effectively protects the fruit from sunburn. The bush is compact, about 20-30 cm tall, making care easier. The ripening period is 60-75 days from transplanting seedlings into the ground, allowing for a quick harvest. The hybrid adapts well to various growing conditions, is drought-resistant, and immune to Fusarium wilt and anthracnose.
Banir watermelon fruits have oval or elongated-oval shape with symmetrical and attractive market appearance. The rind is light green, covered with fine netting or distinct dark green stripes, medium-thick and firm. The average weight of one fruit ranges from 8 to 12 kg, which is optimal for transportation and marketing without loss of market quality. The flesh is bright red, juicy, with small seeds, high sugar content (about 12-13%), crisp texture, and rich aroma. Due to these qualities, the watermelon is ideal for fresh slicing, smoothies, pickling, and processing.
To achieve maximum yield and preserve flavor quality, timely fertilization is recommended: phosphorus in early stages, potassium during growth, and calcium should be applied at least twice. Calcium deficiency may result in deteriorated flesh taste and texture, as well as increased susceptibility to diseases. The hybrid responds quickly to watering and feeding, but excessive nitrogen may negatively affect flavor, so organic fertilizers should be used cautiously. The well-developed root system promotes the formation of large, sweet fruits, making Banir F1 an excellent choice for cultivation in various climatic conditions.
