While the primary host is Oryza sativa, other wild grass species can harbor the pathogen. These wild reservoirs are crucial for the survival of the phytoplasma during the off-season, allowing it to persist in the environment.

Because the pathogen is a phytoplasma, conventional fungicides are ineffective. The management strategy must focus on controlling the insect vector population rather than attempting to treat the plant with chemicals.
