The natural habitat of the plant includes peat bogs, wet meadows, and marshy moorlands. It is well-adapted to acidic, nutrient-poor substrates, where it often forms carpets that contribute to the unique biodiversity of the local wetland ecosystem.
Botanically, Narthecium is characterized by a rhizomatous root system and linear, iris-like foliage arranged in basal rosettes. During the flowering stage, the plant produces erect racemes consisting of numerous small yellow flowers with distinct orange-tipped stamens.
