This hybrid is a result of crossing Nepenthes sibuyanensis and Nepenthes ampullaria, belonging to the Nepenthaceae family. It is a carnivorous plant characterized by its robust pitcher morphology and compact, basal growth habit, making it a highly desirable specimen in tropical plant horticulture.
Maintaining high relative humidity is the most critical factor for successful cultivation, ideally staying between 70% and 90%. In home or commercial conditions, this necessitates the use of climate-controlled terrariums or indoor greenhouses to prevent the pitcher lids from drying out and failing to develop.
The optimal temperature range is between +22°C and +28°C. While the plant can tolerate slight variations, steady temperatures promote faster vegetative growth and more frequent pitcher production. Nighttime cooling is often beneficial to mimic the natural tropical highlands and lowlands environmental cycles.
Bright, indirect light is essential for maintaining plant vigor and promoting the typical red or green pigmentation of the pitchers. High-intensity LED lighting with a spectral range suitable for plant growth is recommended, typically applied for a photoperiod of 12 to 14 hours daily.
The planting medium must be nutrient-poor, porous, and acidic. A mixture consisting of long-fiber sphagnum moss and perlite is standard, ensuring the roots have access to oxygen while retaining consistent moisture. Avoid using soil mixes containing fertilizers, as they are toxic to the plant's delicate root system.
Main diseases and pests
Common pests affecting this hybrid include mealybugs and spider mites, which thrive in stagnant, humid environments. Regular inspection and the implementation of proper air circulation systems are vital for preventing infestations that can quickly compromise the health of the leaves and pitchers.
Root rot and crown rot are frequent threats caused by poor drainage or the use of hard water, which leads to mineral buildup in the substrate. To mitigate these risks, irrigation should be performed exclusively with distilled water, reverse osmosis water, or rainwater, ensuring that the substrate never becomes waterlogged.
