Doerfler's everlasting

Doerfler's everlasting (Helichrysum doerfleri) is a herbaceous perennial plant belonging to the Asteraceae family. Originating from the mountainous regions of Greece, it has evolved to thrive in harsh, rocky environments with minimal moisture availability.

This species is highly regarded for its low-maintenance requirements, making it an excellent candidate for xeriscaping. The soil must be exceptionally well-drained, ideally containing a significant proportion of sand or grit to prevent winter waterlogging, which is a common cause of plant mortality.

The plant demonstrates a strong preference for full solar exposure, which is essential for maintaining its distinctive silver-grey foliage and compact growth habit. In climates with frequent rainfall, it is often necessary to plant it in raised beds to ensure proper drainage and root health.
