Pendimethalin

Pendimethalin belongs to the dinitroaniline chemical class and is a selective herbicide. Its primary function is to suppress weed growth during the early stages of development immediately after seed germination.

The active ingredient penetrates the plant through the coleoptile or hypocotyl, as well as the root system. This leads to the inhibition of cell division in the meristematic tissues of the seedlings.

As a result of tubulin protein inhibition, the mitosis process is disrupted. Weeds stop growing, their roots and shoots become deformed, and they perish before emerging from the soil surface.

The product possesses significant soil activity and creates a protective barrier in the topsoil layer. The effectiveness is directly dependent on proper soil preparation and adequate moisture levels.

The substance does not possess systemic activity within developed plants, which is why it is ineffective against weeds that have already established a mature root system and above-ground mass.

Pendimethalin effectively controls a wide spectrum of annual broad-leaved and grassy weeds. It serves as a base component in anti-resistance crop protection programs.

The product is widely used in cereal crops, maize, sunflowers, soybeans, vegetable crops (onions, carrots, garlic), and potatoes to ensure field cleanliness during the initial growth phase.

Pendimethalin application rates vary depending on soil type, crop variety, and weed species composition. Generally, the dosage ranges from 2 to 6 liters per hectare, depending on the active ingredient concentration.

On light (sandy) soils, minimum application rates are used, whereas on heavy clay or high-humus soils, dosages are increased to ensure a consistent protective effect.

Application timing is classified as pre-emergence (pre-planting with incorporation or post-planting before crop emergence). It is essential to ensure uniform distribution of the spray solution.

Mechanical soil cultivation should be avoided after application to prevent disturbing the protective barrier, which could lead to reduced weed control effectiveness.

When used in tank mixtures, it is crucial to verify the compatibility of pendimethalin with other pesticides to prevent precipitation or potential phytotoxicity to the crop.

Pendimethalin has a high affinity for soil particles, which limits its downward movement into deeper soil layers and reduces the risk of groundwater contamination.

There are crop rotation restrictions: due to the residual potential of pendimethalin in the soil, the sensitivity of subsequent crops must be carefully considered.
