Biology and life cycle: Apionidae undergo complete metamorphosis. They typically overwinter as adults in the soil or under plant debris. In the spring, they emerge and migrate to host plants. Females lay their eggs directly into plant tissues, such as flower buds, stems, or developing seed pods, where the larvae hatch and grow.

Damage and economic impact: Adult weevils create small, round feeding punctures in leaves, leading to stunted growth. The primary economic damage, however, is caused by larvae that feed internally on reproductive organs. This often results in flower drop, stunted pod development, and a substantial reduction in seed viability and total yield.

Protection measures: Management strategies include cultural practices such as timely harvesting, crop rotation, and deep autumn tillage to destroy overwintering sites.
