Braconids (Braconidae)
Systematically, they belong to the order Hymenoptera. As specialized parasitoids, they focus their life cycle on the larvae or eggs of other insects. By targeting agricultural pests such as caterpillars (Lepidoptera), beetles (Coleoptera), and various flies, they perform a regulatory function that keeps pest populations below economic threshold levels.
The biology of braconids is specialized: the female uses an ovipositor to deposit eggs inside or onto the host insect. The larval stage develops internally, consuming the host from within until the host dies.
