The clover case-bearer, Coleophora spissicornis, is a small moth belonging to the family Coleophoridae, known for the unique larval behavior of constructing protective cases.

The most distinctive feature of the species is the larva, which spends almost its entire life inside a portable silken case decorated with plant tissue particles.

The life cycle involves multiple larval instars, and the moth usually completes one generation per year, overwintering as a larva within its case.

These larvae are highly adapted to the clover environment, using their cases to protect themselves from predators and harsh weather conditions.

What it damages

This pest primarily attacks clover and other leguminous plants, causing damage to both vegetative and reproductive tissues.

Larvae mine the interior of the leaves, resulting in small white patches and preventing normal photosynthesis in those sections of the leaf blade.
