Strawberry Elsanta

The Engineering of the Elsanta Cultivar

Elsanta is a Dutch breeding benchmark that defines industrial efficiency in strawberry production. From an agronomic perspective, the cultivar balances high-intensity fruiting with a highly adaptable growth architecture. As a non-everbearing (June-bearing) variety, it focuses its metabolic resources into a single, highly productive cycle, which is the primary driver behind the consistent 40-50 gram fruit size.

Technical Parameters: Defense and Resilience

The core design of this hybrid centers on its health profile. Breeders prioritized resistance to crown rot and grey mold (Botrytis), which is essential for greenhouse cultivation where humidity creates a constant disease pressure. When cultivated in open fields, the plant shows strong physiological resilience against common leaf pathogens:

• Mycosphaerella, brown leaf spot, and phyllosticta are successfully managed through the variety’s inherent systemic immunity.
• Alternaria management is streamlined by the plant's robust defense responses, though standard monitoring remains a prerequisite for high yield.

Operational Adaptability

The versatility of the Elsanta method makes it a strategic asset for diverse agricultural models. In closed-environment setups, the cultivar delivers optimal berry weight through precise irrigation and nutrient control. In open-field conditions, the primary technical advantage is the fruit’s epidermis density—a characteristic that minimizes bruising during transit and extends shelf life. These physical properties make it a premier choice for commercial producers looking for reliability in supply chains.
