Khersonskiy watermelon is an early-maturing variety with a short vegetation period — from germination to technical maturity it takes only 65-67 days. The fruits are round, have a thin dark-green rind with a waxy coating, and weigh between 4 to 5 kilograms. The flesh is bright red, highly sweet, juicy, and sugary, making it especially appealing for fresh consumption.
This watermelon variety prefers light soils and is valued for its early and simultaneous harvest. Khersonskiy watermelon seeds are suitable for planting in open ground and ensure a high yield of quality fruits. Due to its ease of cultivation and excellent taste, the watermelon is widely used not only fresh but also for producing fruit juices, jams, and other food products.
Khersonskiy watermelon is one of the most well-known and sweetest varieties in Ukraine, especially prized before the full-scale war began. The Kherson region traditionally was one of the main suppliers of watermelons in the country. Despite the challenging conditions associated with occupation and landmines across much of the territory, farmers are gradually restoring production. The first harvest after deoccupation amounted to about 5% of pre-war levels, highlighting the importance of this variety as a symbol of the region's revival and liberation.
