DOGSTAR VERBENA

Verbenum 'Dogstar' is a dwarf hybrid growing 20-50 cm tall, forming compact bushes with good branching and abundant flowering. Leaves are oblong, toothed, and dissected, while inflorescences are arranged in spike-like shields that can be white, violet, pink-magenta, lilac, or sky-blue. Flowering begins in June and continues until strong cold weather; to extend the blooming period, withered inflorescences are recommended to be removed.

The plant prefers sunny and semi-shaded locations, grows well on fertile, light neutral soils with good drainage. For successful cultivation, seeds can be sown in March in fertile light soil, then mulched with compost or peat, and fertilized with a complete mineral fertilizer containing iron if necessary. Verbena is undemanding: moderate but regular watering, along with periodic feeding with nitrogen-containing fertilizers at the beginning of the season and potassium-phosphorus ones later, will help maintain growth and flowering.

'Dogstar' is distinguished by high resistance to diseases and good wind permeability. With proper care, the plant rarely gets sick, but may be susceptible to powdery mildew, black leg, and root rot. To prevent pests and diseases, it is recommended to timely remove dry flower stalks, conduct regular treatment with preparations, and maintain an optimal soil moisture level. This makes verbena an excellent element of garden design, capable of withstanding climatic fluctuations and adding bright colors to the landscape.
