Tomato Sailor

Italian Expertise in Large-Fruited Tomatoes

The «Sailor» tomato from Isi Sementi S.P.A is designed for producers who prioritize fruit size combined with the refined flavor profile characteristic of Italian breeding. This hybrid is a standout in the professional segment, offering a robust solution for those targeting the fresh market with high-quality, "meaty" produce.

Performance Highlights

• High Yield Capacity: Capable of producing 160–190 tons per hectare, Sailor is a workhorse for professional growers looking to maximize output per unit of land.
• Fruit Quality: With an average weight exceeding 200 grams, the fruit features a distinctive round-to-heart shape. The interior contains more than six locules, contributing to a firm texture and rich, intense flavor.
• Market Appeal: The vibrant red-pink skin and consistent sizing make the harvest easy to sort and visually appealing for high-end retail channels.

Operational Considerations

Given its 120–130 day maturation period, Sailor is best suited for regions with a long, warm growing season or for controlled greenhouse environments. Success with this hybrid requires precise irrigation and nutrition management; due to the heavy weight of the fruit, maintaining steady soil moisture is crucial to prevent cracking. This variety is an excellent choice for farmers aiming for premium positioning, as its culinary qualities significantly outperform standard mass-market hybrids. While it requires a more attentive approach to cultivation, the premium price point for quality red-pink tomatoes often justifies the investment in inputs.
