Tomato Mogami

Consistent Yields of Large-Fruited Pink Tomatoes

For growers targeting the premium fresh produce market, the "Mogami" hybrid from Rijk Zwaan offers a reliable solution for protected cultivation. This indeterminate tomato variety demonstrates exceptional adaptability, allowing producers to plan cycles with an expectation of consistently high yields of marketable produce.

Agronomic Advantages and Disease Resistance

The primary advantage of "Mogami" is its robust genetic resistance. The hybrid was engineered to minimize losses from pathogens, which is critical in intensive greenhouse operations. The plant exhibits comprehensive resistance to:

• Soil-borne pathogens: Fusarium wilt and root rot.
• Foliar diseases: Mycosphaerella leaf spot and brown spot.
• Systemic threats: Tomato mosaic virus and various viral diseases.
• Physiological disorders: Blossom-end rot.

This resistance profile allows agronomists to significantly reduce fungicide applications, lowering production costs and simplifying eco-certification processes.

Yield and Marketability

With a maturity period of 120–130 days, "Mogami" is classified as a mid-late variety that perfectly fills the market window when early varieties are exhausted, but demand for high-quality pink tomatoes remains strong. The flat-round fruit shape, combined with an average weight of over 200 grams, makes these tomatoes highly attractive for retail. A yield potential of 160–190 tons per hectare requires professional nutrient management and a strict fertilizing schedule, but the result—large, uniform fruits—justifies the investment.

When planning your season, keep in mind the indeterminate growth habit: the crop requires reliable trellising, consistent pruning, and proper canopy management to fully realize the potential fruit weight and quality.
