Tomato Angelina

Growing the «Angelina» Tomato: A Practical Perspective

Working with the Serbian breeding line from Superior D.O.O. Za Poljoprivrednu Proizvo, it becomes clear that this hybrid is engineered for high-yield output. As an indeterminate variety, it demands disciplined maintenance. Growers should be prepared for regular pruning and tying, as the plant possesses vigorous growth energy that needs to be directed into fruit production.

Cultivation and Performance Insights

• Maturation Cycle: With a growing season of 90–100 days, this hybrid fits well into most greenhouse rotation schedules. Achieving fruit weights over 200 grams requires a rigorous potassium-based fertilization program during the swelling phase.
• Fruit Characteristics: One of the most interesting aspects of the «Angelina» is its morphological diversity—fruits shift between cuboid, heart-shaped, and egg-shaped forms. The color palette, ranging from vibrant red to deep pink, gives the product a distinct look that appeals to fresh market consumers looking for premium quality.
• Operational Demands: This variety is not for the «set and forget» grower. It is highly responsive to drip irrigation but requires constant monitoring for water balance to prevent fruit cracking. The fruit quality, however, makes it worthwhile: they handle transport exceptionally well compared to other large-fruited varieties.

«Angelina» is a tool for the professional operator. It performs reliably in greenhouse conditions, provided you stay on top of the nutritional balance. The main operational challenge is managing the foliage to ensure light penetration, but if the growth is managed correctly, the resulting yield is both substantial and highly marketable.
