Sunflower VITEM

Stability and Oil Content: The Potential of the Vitim Hybrid

Russian sunflower breeding is currently undergoing a shift toward intensive technologies, and the Vitim hybrid from NPO Sunbrid is a prominent example of this evolution. In an era of climatic volatility, farmers seek varieties that combine predictable vegetation periods with high yield potential, and this model has firmly secured its position in the market.

When developing this hybrid, the focus was on achieving a balance between the plant's biological capacity and its ability to accumulate organic compounds. With a vegetation period ranging from 110 to 120 days, Vitim belongs to the mid-season group, allowing it to effectively utilize summer rainfall while avoiding peak thermal stress during the seed-filling stage. This makes it an optimal solution for agricultural enterprises practicing conventional farming in zones with moderate risk profiles.

Agrotechnical Profile

• Morphology: The plant reaches a height of 160–170 cm. Its optimized stem architecture ensures resistance to lodging, which is critical for efficient mechanical harvesting.
• Productivity: The key indicator is an oil content of 45–50%. For processors, this translates to a high yield of finished product per ton of raw material, while for the farmer, it ensures strong market liquidity.

The reputation of NPO Sunbrid as an originator is built on its commitment to the adaptability of its breeding lines. Vitim does not require excessively complex crop protection schemes; however, it consistently delivers the best results in fields with adequate mineral nutrition. Thanks to its height and vigorous early-stage growth, the hybrid successfully competes with weed pressure, effectively reducing the herbicide load on the fields.

On a commercial scale, Vitim has established itself as a reliable choice for those prioritizing seed quality. The high oil percentage allows farmers to aim for premium pricing, turning the choice of this hybrid from a purely agronomic decision into a solid economic strategy.
