Sunflower Hortița

Stable yields from Serbian selection

The «Hortytsia» sunflower hybrid, developed by the renowned IFVCNS institute (Novi Sad), is a strategic choice for farmers who prioritize reliability. In an era of increasing climatic variability, this simple hybrid demonstrates remarkable resilience against critical pathogens that threaten crops during the maturation phase.

Phytosanitary shield and morphology

The key advantage of this hybrid lies in its robust genetic immune system. Breeders in Novi Sad have focused extensively on resistance to Phomopsis, Phoma, and stem rot—diseases that can significantly reduce yields in unprotected varieties. Additional resilience against rust and powdery mildew allows farmers to reduce their reliance on frequent fungicide applications.

• Vegetation period: 110–120 days. This duration is optimal for most regions, ensuring that harvest can be completed before the autumn rains set in.
• Oil content: 45–50%. A solid figure that provides an excellent balance between seed yield and the quality of the harvested oil.
• Plant height: 160–170 cm. A medium-height architecture makes the hybrid resistant to lodging, which facilitates machine harvesting and minimizes field losses.

Who is the «Hortytsia» hybrid for?

This hybrid is ideal for farms utilizing intensive or classical cultivation methods, where a predictable result is essential without the need for excessive chemical intervention. Thanks to its sturdy 160–170 cm stature, the plant adapts well to various soil types and withstands high wind conditions. A strong selling point is the combination of early maturation and high oil accumulation. However, growers should note that professional crop rotation is essential, as the hybrid does not possess resistance to specific proprietary herbicide systems (like Clearfield or Express), requiring traditional weed management practices.
