Cartago sunflower is a hybrid of Ukrainian selection, created by interline hybridization using cytoplasmic male sterility and complete pollen fertility restoration. This hybrid is intended for conventional cultivation and belongs to the mid-early maturity group with a vegetative period of 108–112 days. Plant height reaches 170–180 cm, providing optimal conditions for yield formation.
Cartago is characterized by high drought and disease resistance, including resistance to the 7th most virulent race of downy mildew and race 730 of false powdery mildew. Thanks to these qualities, the hybrid adapts well to various climatic conditions and can be successfully grown both on irrigated and naturally irrigated fields. Early flowering promotes timely yield formation and reduces risks associated with adverse weather conditions.
The potential yield of Cartago sunflower reaches 50 centners per hectare, with oil content in seeds of 50–53%. High oil content makes this hybrid especially attractive for oil production. The recommended planting density is 60,000–70,000 plants per hectare, which helps maximize land use and achieve high productivity.
