Sunflower Astoria

Global Collaboration in Sunflower Genetics

The «Astoria» sunflower hybrid is a product of strategic international cooperation between the V.S. Pustovoit All-Russian Research Institute of Oil Crops (VNIIMK) and the Beijing-based company Jinghaisilu. This partnership combines Russia's legacy in oilseed breeding with advanced production capabilities in the Beijing Economic-technological Development Area, resulting in a hybrid tailored for reliable field performance.

Agronomic Profile and Market Positioning

Classified as a mid-season hybrid with a maturity period of 120–130 days, Astoria is engineered for versatility. Its growth cycle is calibrated to balance robust development with the climatic demands of temperate agricultural zones. This timing allows for consistent yield formation, making it a reliable choice for producers focusing on stable, predictable outcomes rather than extreme environmental stress-testing.

• Breeding and Development: VNIIMK (Russia) in collaboration with Jinghaisilu (China).
• Intellectual Property: Jinghaisilu, Beijing.
• Vegetation Cycle: 120–130 days.

For the modern grower, Astoria represents a fusion of established breeding standards and modern seed processing. It is positioned as a dependable asset in crop rotation, suitable for regions where the 120–130 day window fits perfectly between standard seasonal planting and harvesting operations. The hybrid's pedigree, rooted in VNIIMK’s extensive germplasm library, ensures a disciplined growth habit and reliable phenotypic consistency.
