Savory Liunata

Ukrainian breeding for steppe climates

The 'Lunata' savory variety, officially registered in 2022, is a result of the dedicated research by the Institute of Climate-Oriented Agriculture of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine. This variety represents a significant advancement for the domestic spice and herb market, specifically developed to thrive in the challenging conditions of the steppe zone, where drought resistance and developmental stability are paramount.

Morphological traits and utility

Unlike wild-growing forms, 'Lunata' exhibits a compact habit and moderate branching, which simplifies field management and harvesting. The plant is characterized by its low height, medium-sized bush diameter, and moderate green leaf coloration. For processors, the variety offers a balanced profile: a medium content of essential oils with a low concentration of carvacrol, resulting in a milder, more versatile flavor profile suitable for a wide range of culinary applications.

• Type: population variety.
• Flowering: mid-season, white flowers, dense inflorescences.
• Usage: universal (fresh market, drying, and industrial processing).

The compact nature of the bush makes 'Lunata' an excellent candidate for intensive cultivation systems. The absence of anthocyanin coloration in the shoots and the sparse pubescence on the upper leaf surface reflect the high purity of the variety. 'Lunata' stands out as a reliable choice for growers seeking a stable, high-quality savory variety with a predictable harvest cycle.
