Ice Queen salad is a mid-season head lettuce variety of iceberg lettuce, distinguished by its bright green, dense, and juicy leaves with a wavy, lacy edge. The leaf rosette is semi-erect, reaching a height of about 22 cm and a diameter of up to 30 cm, with a head weight of approximately 230 grams. The leaves have an inverted pear shape, are slightly ruffled and weakly blistered, possessing a crisp texture and a sweetish-fresh taste without bitterness. The salad is resistant to bolting and boasts high yields—up to 3.9 kg per square meter.
For the best quality greens, it is recommended to grow this variety through seedlings, sowing in mid-April and transplanting into the ground in mid-May. Sowing should be done at a depth of 1-2 cm, followed by thinning at the 2-3 true leaf stage to ensure an optimal distance of 25-30 cm between plants in a row. Care in open ground includes regular root watering, weeding, loosening, and fertilizing with mineral fertilizers, especially nitrogen-containing ones. Ice Queen salad is also suitable for growing microgreens and baby leaves, using substrates of agrowool, peat, or coconut, and providing illumination of about 100 Watts per square meter at a daytime temperature of 20-22 degrees and 18-20 at night.
Ice Queen salad is valued for its nutritional properties, as it contains B, A, C, PP, and E vitamins, as well as minerals and trace elements. It is used exclusively in fresh form, ideally suited for preparing salads, burgers, sandwiches, and as a side dish for meat and vegetable dishes. Thanks to its taste qualities and versatility, this variety is an excellent choice for lovers of healthy and tasty food.
