Demerka is a highly adaptable winter rapeseed hybrid successfully grown in various agro-climatic zones of Ukraine. Studies conducted between 2014–2015 showed that this hybrid demonstrates stable yield performance both in central, southern, and western regions of the country, making it a universal choice for farmers aiming for high productivity across different soils and climatic conditions. Demerka ranks among the best hybrids, alongside varieties such as Cleopatra, Cheremosh, and Brentano, confirming its adaptability and resilience to various environmental factors.
In Ukraine, rapeseed sowing areas have fluctuated in recent years, and despite increased acreage, the current season’s yield is expected to be lower than the record 2019 level due to unfavorable weather conditions. Meanwhile, a significant portion of the sowing material consists of foreign-selected seeds, primarily French and German varieties, underscoring the importance of locally adapted hybrids like Demerka. Import of rapeseed seeds into Ukraine remains substantial, but domestic and adapted hybrids contribute to the development of the agricultural sector and ensure stable production.
Moreover, Demerka rapeseed exhibits high biochemical properties, including oil and protein content, making it valuable for both technical and food industries. Depending on the variety, erucic acid content in the oil may vary, allowing rapeseed to serve as raw material for various industries. Thus, Demerka represents a modern hybrid combining high yield, adaptability, and quality characteristics necessary for effective cultivation and further processing.
