Winter wheat variety 'Forest Song' was developed at the Belaya Tserkva Experimental and Selection Station of the Institute of Sugar Beet of UAAN.

Distinctive features and trial characteristics of the variety
The 'Forest Song' variety belongs to the erythrospermum group, with a semi-erect plant habit. Thousand-grain weight is 45-49g.
Biological and agronomic characteristics
Mid-early maturing, it heads 3-5 days earlier than 'Perlina' of the Forest Steppe and 3 days later than the Belaya Tserkva dwarf variety.
High winter hardiness, confirmed by field data and freezer chamber tests.
Short-stemmed — plant height 83-88 cm, lodging resistance 8.5 points.
Drought resistance — 9 points.
Resistant to leaf diseases and Fusarium of the ear.
High-yielding: in competitive variety trials at the selection station, it yielded 80-82 centners per hectare in various years. On average over 2 years of state variety trials (2006-2007) in the Forest Steppe zone, 'Forest Song' yielded 69.2 centners per hectare, matching the standard variety 'Podolianka'.
In 2006, in the Polissia zone, at 7 trial points, 'Forest Song' yielded 53.6, 'Perlina' of the Forest Steppe — 49.4, 'Podolianka' — 45.3 centners per hectare. In the Volyn Regional Experimental Station, respectively, 'Forest Song' — 56.7, 'Perlina' of the Forest Steppe — 47.9, 'Podolianka' — 39.2 centners per hectare. At the Andrushovskaya Experimental Station of the Zhytomyr Regional Experimental Station, 'Forest Song' — 58.5, 'Perlina' of the Forest Steppe — 43.1, 'Podolianka' — 46.2 centners per hectare. At the Borodianskaya Experimental Station, respectively — 62.4, 50.1, 34.2 centners per hectare.
In the Steppe zone, at the Volnyanskaya Experimental Station, 'Forest Song' yielded 57.2, 'Podolianka' — 44.8, 'Odessa 267' — 41.1 centners per hectare. At the Berezhovskaya Experimental Station of the Odessa region, 'Forest Song' — 44.0, 'Podolianka' — 38.5, 'Odessa 267' — 40.9 centners per hectare.
In the extremely dry 2007 season, at the Berezhanskaya Experimental Station, 'Forest Song' yielded 60.2 centners per hectare, standard 'Podolianka' — 53.3, 'Krizhinka' — 54.8 centners per hectare. At the Volchanskaya Experimental Station, respectively, 'Forest Song' — 78.3, 'Podolianka' — 78.5, 'Krizhinka' — 74.1 centners per hectare.
Baking qualities. According to data from the Central Experimental Station, the 'Forest Song' variety is classified as strong wheat: protein content 14.0%, gluten 29.0%, flour strength 331 units, bread volume 1190 ml.
