Portulaca 'Prince's Mat' is a compact annual plant with a dense, double-flowered mat of bright orange flowers. It quickly covers the surface, creating a living, decorative barrier for garden plots, flower beds, and paths between stones. Its leaves are fleshy, green or slightly reddish, while the 2.5–3 cm diameter flowers bloom on sunny days, with some varieties capable of flowering even on cloudy days.
For successful cultivation of portulaca, bright lighting and temperatures between 20 and 26 °C are required. The plant is resistant to diseases and pests, but may suffer from the Albugo portulaceae fungus, which causes leaf spots, as well as from aphids and powdery mildew. Watering should be done regularly during hot periods, avoiding water stagnation; with moderate soil moisture, the plant shows good drought resistance.
Portulaca 'Prince's Mat' does not require frequent fertilization and minimal care: it is sufficient to provide adequate lighting and moderate watering. It grows quickly, covering the surface during the summer, and can be used as a lawn replacement on dry soils or for creating living fences. Due to its bright coloration and compact growth, this variety is valued by gardeners for its ease of cultivation and decorative appeal.
