Description SIBIRYAK
Sibiryak Onion is a mid-season overwintering variety of bulb onion, developed by the Dutch breeding company Bejo Zaden. It is characterized by high cold hardiness and regenerative ability, allowing the plant to develop steadily and yield well even under unfavorable climatic conditions. The variety does not bolt and is resistant to Fusarium rot, which significantly eases care and improves product quality. Seeds are sown from late August so that the onions can strengthen before the cold sets in; the recommended sowing rate is 1-1.2 million seeds per hectare. Sibiryak is plastic to agricultural techniques and unpretentious, making it suitable for growing by both experienced farmers and beginners.

The bulbs of the Sibiryak variety have an oval-round shape with a mass of 100 to 150 grams. The outer scales are yellow-brown, dry, and strong, while the inner flesh is snow-white, fleshy, juicy, and possesses an excellent taste with a semi-spicy nuance. The dry matter content in the bulbs is about 8.8%, which contributes to good storability and preservation of the product. The yield of the variety reaches 60 tons per hectare, and harvest is usually carried out in May-June. The onions store well for up to 8 months, which allows for their use both for fresh market sales and for processing.

Sibiryak is recommended for growing both as a one-year crop from seeds and as a two-year crop from seed onions. The period from seedling emergence to mass lodging of leaves is 80-90 days, which ensures early ripening and the possibility of obtaining a stable yield. Due to its frost resistance and adaptability to various weather conditions, the variety is excellent for growing in a temperate climate, including Ukraine and Moldova, without the need for a seedling method.
