Garlic DUCHES. Ozmiiy

Technical Potential of the «Duchesse» Variety

The «Duchesse» winter garlic, developed by the Institute of Vegetable and Melon Growing of the NAAS, is engineered specifically for the agro-climatic conditions of Ukraine. The core of this variety lies in its adaptive mechanism, which effectively utilizes the autumn-winter moisture to establish a robust root system before the onset of dormancy.

Productivity and Morphological Features

• Bulb Structure: Dense, multi-layered protective scales ensure high marketability and excellent shelf life, resisting damage during post-harvest handling.
• Clove Characteristics: Compact arrangement with high pulp density, providing consistent product quality and weight.
• Adaptability: The variety shows resilience against temperature fluctuations and typical soil-borne pathogens.

The key driver of the «Duchesse» yield is the balance between vegetative growth speed and dry matter accumulation. Unlike high-input imported hybrids, this variety demonstrates consistent performance using standard NPK application schemes. This significantly reduces fertilizer logistics costs and allows producers to predict yields with greater precision.

To maximize results, it is essential to focus on proper planting depth and timing, ensuring the root system is well-established before the soil freezes. The «Duchesse» variety is a reliable choice for crop rotation, particularly due to its phytosanitary stability, which reduces the need for intensive chemical protection compared to European counterparts.
