Heracles is a robust lovage (Levisticum officinale) variety, known for its high frost resistance and rapid growth, which allows for harvesting in the first season. The plant has round, dissected leaves, branched stems, and compound umbels of yellowish florets. It is undemanding: it grows on various soil types, withstands winters well, and requires minimal care – regular watering, loosening, weeding, and complex fertilization.
Lovage Heracles leaves and flower stalks are harvested during the active growth period, while roots are harvested in spring or autumn. In cooking, the plant is valued for its bright aroma: it is used in salads, soups, sauces, marinades, and even confectionery. In medicine, lovage is used to prepare infusions, decoctions, and extracts, thanks to the essential oils, tannins, organic acids (acetic, malic), vitamin C, carotenes, and lecithin it contains.
In cosmetology, lovage Heracles is widely used for skin toning, treating rashes, improving hair condition, and fighting fungal diseases. It is also used in the production of hydrolates, oils, and creams due to its cholagogue, laxative, and anticonvulsant properties. Contraindicated during pregnancy and not recommended for consumption in large quantities.
