Loveage "Don Juan" is a perennial variety with aromatic leaves and long petioles that grows quickly and can produce several harvests within one season. The plant resembles parsley in appearance: round dissected leaves, umbellate flowers, but has a more pronounced spicy aroma comparable to celery.
In cooking, "Don Juan" is valued as a seasoning for salads, sauces, and marinades. Leaves and roots are rich in essential oils, organic acids (acetic, malic), tannins, lecithin, ascorbic acid, and carotene, making them beneficial for food. In folk medicine, the plant is used for preparing infusions and decoctions: it has a choleretic effect, helps with weakness, anemia, digestive problems, and insomnia.
In cosmetology, "Don Juan" is applied for skin toning, treating breakouts, improving hair condition, and fighting fungal diseases. Due to the content of essential oils, it is also included in aromatherapy mixtures, deodorants, and antiperspirants. In cultivation, the plant is undemanding: it tolerates various soil types well, does not require frequent watering in the shade, but needs mulching and complex fertilization for optimal growth. Harvest is obtained by cutting flower stalks or digging up roots in spring and autumn. Contraindications include sensitive skin and pregnancy.
