Description
The Oriental Lily 'Medusa' is a hybrid with a harmonious raspberry-pink coloration and a rich aroma. Flowers reach 18–23 cm in full bloom: their petals are slightly reflexed backwards, while golden stamens give the buds an exquisite look. In the center of each flower is a yellow eye with burgundy spots, highlighting the brightness of the raspberry shades.
'Medusa' scapes can hold up to ten buds and do not require staking. Scapes are 120–130 cm tall, and bulbs are 12/14 (in some specimens 16/18). Blooming lasts about three weeks in July–August, and buds usually face upwards or tilt slightly to the sides.
For successful cultivation of an Oriental lily, ensure drainage and light soil. Bulbs are planted at a depth of at least 30 cm; they are suitable for both bright sun and light partial shade. If desired, bulbs can be grown in containers in March–April to accelerate growth and achieve early blooming. The 'Medusa' lily winters well in Zone 5 when protected with a layer of peat or leaf litter about ten centimeters thick.
