Lily Favorit

Favorit: A Bold Statement in Garden Design

Developed by Alevtina Nedoluzhko at the Botanical Garden-Institute of the FEB RAS, the 'Favorit' lily stands apart from mass-produced cultivars. While most lilies on the market today are bred for shipping and standardized aesthetics, 'Favorit' brings a more robust, botanical heritage to the private garden landscape.

The Visual Impact

The hallmark of this variety is its turban-like (martagon-style) flower shape, a sophisticated departure from the common upward-facing trumpet shapes. The deep purple hue adds a sense of drama to any flower bed. With stems reaching 120–150 cm, this lily is designed to act as a structural pillar in a garden, providing necessary height and depth to mid-summer borders.

Strengths and Considerations

• Potent Fragrance: This variety possesses a strong, evocative scent. While delightful in an open-air garden, it is best planted away from bedroom windows or seating areas where the aroma might become overwhelming.
• Regional Resilience: Bred by experts at the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, this cultivar is built to handle climate volatility better than many delicate greenhouse-grown imports.
• Design Versatility: Due to its stature and unique blossom shape, 'Favorit' works best as a focal point in decorative beds rather than a filler plant.

For the gardener who values character over trend, 'Favorit' offers a rare opportunity to cultivate a piece of expert-bred botanical history. It is an ideal selection for those creating tiered garden layouts where height and vivid, saturated colors are required to draw the eye.
