Description Almaz
The Almaz potato variety is an early-maturing table-type variety developed by the Ural Agricultural Research Institute in Russia. The plants of this variety are tall and spreading, which promotes good plant growth. The tubers have white skin with a smooth surface, a short-oval shape with a blunt tip and a flat stolon scar. The flesh is creamy, and the eyes are numerous, medium-depth, and uncolored. The tuber mass ranges from 46 to 135 grams, and the number of tubers per plant ranges from 6 to 11.

The variety is characterized by high yield, ranging from 1.6 to 3.0 kg per square meter or 157-303 centners per hectare, with maximum yields reaching up to 406 centners. The starch content in the tubers ranges from 10.3% to 18.5%, ensuring good taste and versatility in culinary applications. Almaz potato is suitable for preparing various dishes and exhibits high storability—about 87%—allowing it to maintain its market appearance and quality for a long time after harvest.

The variety is resistant to diseases such as potato cancer and golden potato nematode, making it a reliable choice for cultivation under various conditions. However, it is susceptible to late blight, requiring timely protection and care. Due to its characteristics and adaptation to the Volga-Vyatka region, the Almaz variety is recommended for home gardens and small-scale farms.
