Typhoon (Tajfun) — a mid-early, nematode-resistant variety, the first Polish variety registered in the Ukrainian Plant Variety Register (2008). This variety is truly a valuable gift for Ukrainian potato growers during the changing climate. Its adaptability, resilience to adverse weather conditions (easily recovers after frost or hail damage), resulting in consistently high yields combined with excellent taste and large tuber size, has made Typhoon a favorite among Ukrainian potato growers. Early trial experience on Ukrainian soils confirmed its proven drought resistance (ability to absorb moisture from deeper soil horizons and limit leaf transpiration), which is also known in other countries. Alternating dry and rainy periods during the growing season do not lead to cracking, hollow heart, or sprouting — defects common in many older varieties. Typhoon is resistant to the particularly dangerous viruses Y, L, and M, moderately resistant to leaf blight and common scab, and has good storage quality.
The plant of this variety is vigorous, well-branched, with light green leaves and white flowers. The tubers are very large, oval, well-formed, with small eyes, and have good market appearance. The skin is yellow, and the flesh is light yellow. The tubers have excellent taste qualities, do not darken during boiling, are slightly soft when cooked, and are suitable for chip production.
