Zucchini Onyx is an early-maturing variety of zucchini with a vegetative period of about 40-49 days, which allows obtaining the first harvest already in early summer. The plant is compact, bushy, recovers well after damage, and is distinguished by high resistance to diseases such as powdery mildew, root rot, and downy mildew. This variety is characterized by stable high yield with proper watering and fertilization.
The fruits of zucchini Onyx have a cylindrical, bullet-shaped shape, tapering towards the stem, and reach a mass of up to 1 kg. The skin is thin, smooth, dark green, almost black, and does not become tough with the age of the fruit. The flesh is light cream, juicy, sweet, and crunchy, making this variety especially attractive for home cooking and canning. The optimal length for harvesting fruits is up to 15 cm, when they have the best taste qualities.
For successful cultivation of zucchini Onyx, it is recommended to sow seeds at the end of May — beginning of June, after the threat of frost, on fertile soils with a neutral reaction and high humus content. Acidic soils and areas with a high groundwater level are not suitable for this variety. Thanks to its transportability and resistance to diseases, zucchini Onyx is an excellent choice for cultivation both in private holdings and for commercial purposes.
