Currant KIALIM

Breeding Profile and Genetic Potential

The 'Kialim' blackcurrant variety is the result of long-term selection work by the UrFASRC of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The development focused on climate adaptability, specifically targeting the harsh, continental conditions of the Ural region. It functions as a robust biological system optimized for high-yield commercial horticulture.

Technical Specifications and Resilience

• Integrated Immunity: Genetic resistance to anthracnose, septoria, and powdery mildew significantly reduces the need for fungicide applications. This lowers operational costs and facilitates the production of high-quality, residue-free fruit.
• Morphological traits: The cultivar features a medium-sized, compact plant habit, which is ideal for dense planting schemes and highly compatible with mechanical harvesting equipment.
• Fruit Quality: Kialim berries are characterized by high sugar content and a clean, dry abscission layer, ensuring excellent transportability and shelf-life, particularly for the deep-freeze processing industry.

Agrotechnical Rationale

Kialim demonstrates significant phenotypic plasticity in regions with short growing seasons. Exceptional frost resistance in both buds and wood allows the variety to maintain high yield potential even after extreme winter temperature fluctuations. Its high self-fertility removes the need for cross-pollinating varieties in the vicinity, streamlining plantation layout and increasing land use efficiency.
