Cucumber Runtor

Engineering crop protection: The Rantor hybrid

Nunhems' cucumber breeding program focuses on solving the critical challenges of modern vegetable production: phytosanitary instability. The Rantor hybrid is engineered as a high-performance tool for securing marketable yields under intense infectious pressure, where standard varieties often suffer losses of up to 40%.

Genetic immune barrier

The core advantage of this hybrid is its complex resistance to both viral and fungal pathogens. The genome contains embedded resistance mechanisms against Cucumber Mosaic Virus (CMV), a notorious threat in glasshouse and film tunnel environments. Utilizing this hybrid allows growers to significantly minimize fungicide applications against powdery mildew, a critical factor for sustainable and eco-conscious operations.

Adaptability and technical cultivation

Technically, Rantor is a versatile hybrid designed for dual-system cultivation: both open field production and professional glasshouse environments. The fruits exhibit high flesh density and a consistent deep green color, ensuring strong market appeal. Its resistance to Tomato Mosaic Virus (ToMV) and other viral complex strains allows Rantor to be used in crop rotations that previously faced issues with soil-borne or mechanical virus transmission.

• Biological resistance to powdery mildew reduces the spray program cycle.
• High fruit density ensures superior shelf life and transport stability.
• Consistent fruit setting across various light regimes in greenhouse conditions.

Choosing Rantor means shifting from reactive disease management to proactive, genetic-level crop protection.
