Optimist

Cucumber variety Optimist is a medium-maturing Ukrainian variety intended for cultivation in open ground. The plant is vigorous, indeterminate, with branched stems about 180 cm long and broad leaves that effectively protect the fruits from sunburn and overheating. This variety is predominantly female-fruiting and highly resistant to powdery mildew, ensuring reliable and stable yields under various climatic conditions, especially in the forest-steppe and Polissia regions of Ukraine. The Optimist cucumber fruits are cylindrical, 10–12 cm long and about 3 cm in diameter, with moderate ribbing and a rich green color. They have high flavor qualities, confirmed by tasting evaluations: 4.9 points for fresh and 5.0 points for pickled cucumbers out of 5 possible points. Fruit set reaches 86%, and yield is approximately 39.6 tons per hectare. The variety is characterized by high transportability and storability, making it attractive for fresh vegetable market sales. Optimist is versatile in use: suitable for fresh consumption, canning, pickling, and preparation of lightly salted cucumbers. Due to its qualities and disease resistance, this variety is one of the best choices for farmers and gardeners aiming to obtain a stable and high-quality cucumber yield in open ground.
