ASTRAKHANIAN DOWNY

Astrakhanian Downy – a new variety of cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.), developed by Astrakhan breeders specifically for the climatic conditions of the Astrakhan region. The plant is of medium height, conical shape, with medium leaf density and medium length of vegetative branches. The growing season lasts from 110 to 117 days.

The variety is distinguished by high productivity: raw cotton yield reaches 3,55 t/ha, and seed yield is 2,14 t/ha. The weight of one boll is about 6.1 g, which allows obtaining more than 85 g of fiber per plant. Fiber yield is in the range of 38–39%, fiber length is approximately 3.5 cm (35–36 mm), and linear density is 154 mteks.

Astrakhanian Downy is characterized by stability and disease resistance. According to the applicant's data, the variety was not affected by diseases and was weakly damaged by pests such as spider mites and aphids. Thanks to these properties, it ensures strategic stability of cotton production in the region and allows increasing overall yield.

The variety is suitable for mechanized harvesting, which makes it convenient for modern agro-production systems. It is also suitable for cultivation in arid zones of the North Caucasus and other climatic regions where climate-resilient cotton is required.
