Maize Lavetto

Engineering Potential of the Lavetto Hybrid

The Austrian breeding approach of Saatbau in the Lavetto model focuses on the balance between physiological maturity and grain moisture dry-down. This simple corn hybrid belongs to the mid-late maturity group, requiring strict adherence to agrotechnological timelines, yet providing high yield stability under intensive cultivation practices.

Vegetation and Technological Aspects

• Vegetation Period: 120–140 days, which dictates its regional suitability: it thrives in areas with a sufficient active temperature window where the hybrid's full potential is unlocked.
• Genetic Architecture: The simple hybrid type ensures high uniformity of the crop. This is critical for even grain filling and simplifying harvest operations, as all plants in the field move through developmental phases synchronously.
• Target Use: Focused on grain production. The morphological features of the ear and kernel type are adapted to meet elevator storage requirements and subsequent processing.

In practice, Lavetto demonstrates predictable root system and stalk development. Saatbau’s intensive breeding minimizes lodging risks, allowing for harvesting within optimal agrotechnical windows without significant losses. The high level of technological refinement makes this hybrid an effective tool for producers aiming for maximum yields per hectare under controlled nutrition and moisture conditions.
