Corn hybrid Abondance is characterized by high productivity, confirmed by field trials conducted in Rostov Oblast in 2019–2021. The trials examined the effect of various doses of mineral fertilizers on productivity of corn grown on irrigated land, taking into account the residual effect of organic fertilizers. Applying mineral fertilizers at the calculated rate for the target yield of 10 t/ha resulted in an actual yield of 10.1 t/ha. Increasing fertilizer doses by 10 and 20 % resulted in yield increases of 3 and 7 % respectively, whereas reducing doses by 10 and 20 % led to yield reductions of 17 and 9 % compared to the control. These data indicate the importance of optimal plant nutrition for achieving maximum productivity of the Abondance hybrid.
Special attention is paid to biological protection of corn Abondance against major pests using integrated methods. Incorporating pheromones, entomopathogenic agents, and releasing parasitic hymenopterans such as Trichogramma evanescens and Habrobracon hebetor, enables effective pest control. Studies showed high efficiency of biological protection against corn borer and cotton bollworm, reaching 74.1–94.0 % and 72.2–77.8 % respectively, which contributes to reducing damage and maintaining crop health.
Thus, corn Abondance is a high-productivity hybrid that responds optimally to balanced application of mineral and organic fertilizers. An integrated approach to pest protection using biological methods ensures crop resilience and contributes to stable high yields. These features make the Abondance hybrid a promising choice for cultivation on irrigated land aimed at obtaining high-quality grain.
