Chrysanthemum Taifun

A Large-Flowered Chrysanthemum for Extended Autumn Interest

The 'Typhoon' cultivar, developed by Alevtina I. Nedoluzhko at the Botanical Garden-Institute of the FEB RAS, is a premium choice for gardeners aiming to maintain aesthetic appeal well into November. Managing this plant is straightforward, provided you optimize its position within your landscape.

Operation and Garden Placement

Standing at a moderate height of 30–60 cm, this cultivar is compact and manageable, eliminating the need for extensive staking. For optimal performance—specifically to achieve those impressive 10+ cm blooms—site selection is the primary operational factor. While the plant tolerates partial shade, it performs best in full sun, which maximizes bud development and color intensity.

Blooms and Winter Maintenance

The main advantage of 'Typhoon' is its late flowering period (October–November). It effectively extends the garden's life cycle. As for maintenance, the plant possesses medium frost resistance. In regions with harsh winters, you will need to implement basic winterization procedures, such as mulching or protective covering, to ensure the root system remains viable for the next season.
