Field Strategy: How 'Seyon' Handles Environmental Stress

The 'Seyon' F1 celeriac, developed by the Dutch breeding company Rijk Zwaan, exemplifies how modern hybrids adapt to volatile climate patterns. During unstable summer seasons, where extreme heat waves frequently alternate with prolonged rainfall, this hybrid demonstrates remarkable plasticity. Its root system is characterized by robust development, allowing the plant to efficiently extract moisture from deeper soil layers, thereby mitigating the impact of short-term drought conditions.

Resistance to Pathogens and Lodging

A standout feature of 'Seyon' is its genetic resistance to Septoria leaf spot (Septoria apiicola), a major challenge for many celeriac varieties. The hybrid's foliage maintains turgor and a healthy appearance even under high humidity, which significantly reduces the need for frequent fungicide applications. The vertical leaf orientation and sturdy rosette structure ensure excellent airflow, virtually eliminating the risk of lodging and root-zone decay.

Adaptation Zones

Officially registered in Ukraine in 2026, this hybrid is well-suited for cultivation across all major agro-climatic zones of the country. 'Seyon' delivers consistent performance in both light sandy soils and heavier chernozems, provided that proper irrigation practices are followed. Its ability to maintain a high-quality root shape without internal hollows makes it a preferred choice for professional vegetable growers focused on long-term storage and retail distribution.
